In the office of International Affairs and Academic Cooperation, we are happy to know that you will come to study at the University of Colima. We want your stay to be pleasant and enriching; therefore, we prepare for you a program of activities that will help you in your process of immersion in the Mexican and regional culture, at the same time that we hope to learn from you and your country. For this reason, we inform you that we hope you will bring with you a typical costume from your country and some ingredients to prepare food. Read carefully the activities in which we hope you get involved.
When you choose to live with a Host Family during your stay at the University of Colima, you have the opportunity to live with a native family of Colima; additionally you have the benefit of being closer to the Mexican cuisine and culture. The cost ranges between $4,000 and $4,500 pesos per month, which includes three meals from Monday to Friday. The family will prepare the main meal and you will have free access to prepare your own food during the weekends.
About the bedrooms, you have the option of having your own room or you can share it with other student. Another advantage of choosing the Host Family is that, if you are a non-Spanish speaker, you will have the opportunity of practicing your Spanish in a more effective way.
When you decide to stay with a Host Family, you choose as well the benefit of being part of a new family, your Mexican family!
In this mode of accommodation, you have the opportunity of renting a department or a house and live with students from different nations and cultures. You have the opportunity of choosing among a wide variety of houses or departments that will be offered by the International Affairs Office. The prices depend on the facilities offered by each leaseholder (such as location, services, etc.) and range between $2,000 and $2,500
pesos per month. It does not include meals. Mechanics of Accomodation Service (Host family or lodging)
If you choose one of these options of accommodation (Host Family or Lodging) what you have to do next is to complete the application
so we can know some more about you. Once your application is checked and analyzed, you will receive some photos and information about the available houses that match as much as possible with your profile and needs. You will choose the option you like the most. Usually, it is not necessary to make any kind of deposit from your home country; the payment to the leaseholder is given in person when you arrive to the house. Flight Information Form & Airport / bus station Pick-up Service
To request the Pick-up service you will have to complete the Pickup service application, which includes all the information needed about your arrival to Colima, either to the regional airport or bus station. This service works under these conditions:
- This service will be given to the students who arrive within the hours and days established.
- The service applies when the student arrives to the bus station of Colima or to the Airport of Colima. If you need to go to another city, we will guide you to get to the place in a safe way.
- This application must be sent correctly completed at least one week before the arriving.
The University of Colima has a group of students called “Amigos Loro” This program is free and it is available for you but you need to ask for it. The benefits of having an Amigo Loro are:
- To guide you about the facilities offered by the University of Colima.
- To show you the Campus and University spaces.
- To show you the university life.
- To show you the services offered by the University.
- To guide you in the city.
- How and where to take a taxi or public transportation.
- The closest banks.
- How to dial a local telephone number, a cell phone number or long distance number.
- Useful telephone numbers and addresses.
- To integrate you to a group of friends.
- To show you the Mexican culture.
- Food habits.
- Social habits.

We hope that during your stay at the University of Colima, you will participate actively in cultural events organized with your help and with other local students and visitors. The public may be the University or Colima society, outside the institution. For these activities we need you to come prepared and willing to talk about your culture, your country, your language, the political system in your country, your city, your customs, your food, your currency, the weather, clothing, cultural activities and most important festivities in your country, in honor of what these activities are carried out, what they consist of, etc. For this reason, we recommend you to bring a power point presentation with the mentioned information and, if possible, bring a typical costume
. If you bring with you some ingredients
to prepare food from your country, you will have many opportunities to share more with us. The date or dates of your participation will be agreed with you upon your arrival. Tourism agenda
During your stay, we will have activities that will allow you to see the beauty of our State and its surroundings. For example: “A very Mexican day”, “Visit the municipality of Tuxpan in Jalisco”, “Travel to Cuyutlán with turtle hatchery” and the Ecotourism Park "El Palapo", among others.
During the information-session it will be announced the name of the group on Facebook where you will find all the details of each activity so you can register on time because almost all trips have limited space. Welcome Kermesse
At the beginning of each semester, we have the welcome session for visiting students, and at the end, we will celebrate with a traditional Mexican Kermesse. During the session, we will give you information about the operation of the University of Colima, important immigration issues, regulations, and other details to help you feel completely comfortable in your university, and make your academic stay successful. At the end of the welcome session, you can enjoy a traditional Mexican Kermesse, where the Amigos Loro, prepare Mexican dishes, wear traditional costumes and offer local drinks, live music, activities and traditional games such as breaking piñata, lottery, civil registry, dance classes, etc.

It is a student program aimed to help other students during their adventure getting to know Mexico, its culture and life style, as well as create spaces where students can participate in different activities in order to hang out with other people, either Mexican or foreigners. It is a very good opportunity to adapt more easily to the Mexican customs and reality of the environment.

What is next after my arrival to Colima City?
In order to study at the University of Colima as an exchange or international student, you will be required to be provided with international medical insurance. This insurance can be purchased through the following email: email@example.com
Complete your registration in the University of Colima (UCOL)
When students arrive to Colima City, it is necessary to go immediately to the Office of International Affairs and Academic Cooperation, located in Central campus of the University of Colima. There, you must submit the complementary documents for your registration, such as:
- Copy of the Certificate of Medical Insurance (If you do not have it, you will be required to immediately buy the recommended one by our international office)
- Copy of the Migratory form (See image 1)
- Copy of your Mexican visa (Only for exchanges of 1 year or international students, See image 2)

All the information provided and activities carried out have the purpose of helping students to get used to your new university and your new home, Colima city.
You will first see some images of Colima city, its location within the country, the weather, beautiful places to visit and to have fun, typical food, our culture, currency, transportation and discounts, time and some recommendations to be safe during their stay.
Secondly, you will identify the location of the five campi and schools that the University of Colima has. We will show you images of the facilities and explain you how to have access to them. For example, we have the sport center, libraries, museums, and many other activities in which they can participate.
Finally, students will learn about our grading and evaluation system used during their exchange period.
