The Interactive Center for Multimedia Learning (CIAM)
of the University of Colima is a new learning facility
where education and technology combine to further education.
CIAM is a setting that enables classes to be held in a
full or partial hands-on fashion. Exploration, application,
analysis, synthesis, and student evaluation derive from
the use of technological resources which are intended
to encourage students to take control of their own learning
process.
The University of Colima has been using cutting edge
technology in the learning process for more than 2 decades.
In the new century, we have designed our Technological
Integration Program which comprises 4 primary lines
of research and academic development: University Life
Portal, Distance Learning, Virtual Worlds, and Technological
Learning Settings.
Technological Learning Settings is a line which comprises
2 academic strategies: hands-on learning and online
learning. In the former, students and professors are
required to attend the CIAM classroom using technological
resources, interactive teaching materials, and online
teamwork in their learning process. In the latter, the
Internet is used as a communication channel between
professors and students. This new approach involves
consultation, research, tutorials, and the delivery
of academic assignments within the CIAM Educational
Community.
