Welcome to the webpage of the Centre of Exchange and Research in Volcanology. This centre has been running since 2004 with an objective to improve our knowledge of Volcán de Colima and other volcanoes in Mexico, and to facilitate the visits of students from outside of Colima who wish to have some hands-on experience working at an active volcano. The centre has received many students from various countries including the UK, USA, Germany, Canada, Italy and France. They have worked alongside Mexican colleagues and students, taking part in a number of research projects based on some of the active volcanoes of Mexico.

| Growing dome (July Update) |
|
The dome continues its slow growth. A fall in the rockfall count suggests a probable decrease in effusion rate in the earlier part of 2010. Cloudy weather and rain has put a halt to the regular observation of its progress.

| Cities on Volcanoes - Tenerife |
Nick & Juan Carlos attended this year's Cities on Volcanoes conference in Tenerife, Spain from 31 May to 4 June. It had particular relevance given the announcement that the next event will be hosted in Colima. The date is November 2012. Much planning and work awaits!

| Current fieldwork |
Unfortunately the problems with the Doppler Radar turned out to be severe and it was necessary to return it to Hamburg for repair. Last month we reinstalled the infrasound station at the Montegrande site. The relocation of the Playon infrasound station was completed, but a return trip is needed in July to get it running. The rainy season arrived in a BIG way! I don’t remember a worse July for the amount of cloud. There is a lot of doubt now about the condition of the tracks to get to the Playon. Two flights in June/July were postponed due to the conditions being too cloudy.
