Geochemical Monitoring (Monitoring of waters)

Version española Versión española

Three springs are monitored on a monthly basis, or during times of enhanced activity, every 2 weeks. A sample is taken from each spring for subsequent laboratory analysis and in the field the following parameters are measured: pH, conductivity, temperature, TDS and Eh.
During the previous 6 years an interesting relationship has been observed between boron and volcanic activity. Boron only rises above the lower level of detection when there is activity and various peaks have been associated with certain eruptive episodes. Most importantly the levels have been noted to increase 2-3 months before each of the previous three effusive episodes.

Here is an image to show the location of the three monitored springs. The distance of each is between 5 and 6 km from the summit of Volcán de Colima.
